Creating the Hackbook
Even though the Cloudbook is being delayed I waste no time getting up-to-speed with the development of the software for it. As described in an earlier post the Cloudbook will be my Hackbook, which has everything I need for everything from casual surfing to develop and demonstrate the latest security software and flaws to interested parties.
I decided to base it off Ubuntu, as that’s what my Thinkpad X40 is running and I am happy with the setup. Although Ubuntu has a lot of the software I am interested in it doesn’t have everything, so I will need to compile a lot of stuff from source. As I really dislike having software installed that isn’t managed by a package manager I will need to refresh my memory how to create .deb’s again. In true open-source spirit the packages will be made available to the public as well - just let me get used to create .deb’s again (last time I created a .deb was in year 2000, and I was running Debian Potato, so I am a bit rusty).
